Defining Pottery By Country:
Chinese Pottery: Hand molded, gas fired pottery features classic shapes and richly colored glazes. A favorite amongst the green industry.
German Terracotta: Fine grained, smooth textured pottery in deep orange hues.
Italian Terracotta: Coarse grained, rough textured pottery in light orange hues.
Malaysian Pottery: Machine molded, gas fired pottery offers consistent shapes and glazes.
Vietnamese Pottery: Hand molded, wood fired pottery offers unique pottery in varying glazes.
Pottery Glossary:
Assortment: Collection basic pottery sets sold as one unit giving the retailer a mix of pot styles or colors. (Assortments are collections of sets.)
Crazing: Fine cracks resulting from shrinkage on the surface of glazed pottery, concrete, or other material. The admired crackle in some Oriental potteries and porcelains is crazing produced in a foreseen and regulated way.
Frost Resistant: Able to withstand temperature above freezing. Pots should have proper drainage so that water does not freeze. There is no guarantee that the pot will not crack in freezing temperatures. Pots should be brought indoors during winter months.
Indoor Pottery: Pottery intended for small potted house plants.
Kiln: Pottery "oven" which fire and harden pottery. Can be heated by different sources (gas, wood, etc) producing varying results.
Outdoor Pottery: Typically larger pottery intended for use outside during non-freezing months.
Set: Group of similar styled pots in varying sizes sold as a unit. (Sets are collections of pots.)
